Short answer
Stripe Billing costs 0.7% of billing volume on pay-as-you-go, on top of card processing fees. That's $70,000 a year at $10M ARR and $350,000 at $50M. Annual pay-monthly plans cost less at list price, and Stripe offers custom Billing pricing for companies billing more than $1M a month.
How Stripe Billing is priced
- Pay as you go: 0.7% of billing volume, with no monthly fee. Billing volume includes recurring payments processed outside Stripe, but not one-off invoices.
- Pay monthly (annual contract): $620 a month for up to $100,000; $1,500 a month for up to $250,000; $2,950 a month for up to $500,000; $5,750 a month for up to $1,000,000 of monthly billing volume, then 0.67% on volume above that.
- Custom pricing for large billing volumes, by contacting Stripe's sales team.
Billing fees are separate from card processing: every card payment still costs 2.9% + 30¢ on standard pricing. Together they set your real cost per dollar of recurring revenue.
When to look at Billing costs
At a few million in ARR, Billing's cost is usually worth the engineering time it saves. As ARR grows, it becomes a six-figure line, and it's a good moment to review the plan, negotiate it with your card pricing, or compare it with other billing tools.
